Learning is Fun on the Farm!
Fall is a beautiful time on the farm! When the temperature dips and leaves began to turn colors, the fall harvest season begins. It’s time for the cornfield maze, the pumpkin patch, and more. Our mission when we started Back Home on the Farm was to teach young people about where our food comes from. In an effort to continue to make that type of education available during the current school situations, we have taken a completely different approach with our farm learning labs.
Bear with us while we prepare to meet new guidelines while still making learning fun!
We hope to be ready to schedule field trips starting September 15, 2020.
Option: Traditional Field Trips
Enjoy a morning at the farm (Pre K classes, day care only) learning about pumpkins and animals, taking a trip to the pumpkin patch and playing. Please call at 540-746-0782 to schedule. We will honor these requests Tuesday thru Friday from 9am-Noon. Your group will be the only school or group on the farm during that time.
Make your reservation requests online now!
Option: New! Farm Learning Labs
Our learning center this year will be available to families and their students to visit as a family from Noon-3pm Tuesday through Friday beginning 9/15. Tours will be self guided. Our area is designed for minimal contact with other visitors — we have one way directional paths and plenty of space to learn about different aspects of farming. No reservations required.

Our expanded learning labs are all under cover in our greenhouse on the farm. Our labs have been developed for kindergarten and older students who visit. We hope that some teachers will give extra credit for visiting the farm, but in case they don’t, just complete the sheet, turn it in to our attendant at the learning labs and receive a coupon for a free Ice cream at either Harrisonburg Dairy Queen locations!
